State Everesters receive heroic welcome

GUWAHATI, June 3: The six members team of Assam Mountaineering Association, lead by Mash Barooah, today received heroic welcome on their return to city after completing a successful expedition in Everest. Three mountaineers of the six members team-Henry David Teron, Khorsing Terang and nda Dulal Das rewrote history in this mission by successfully climbing Everest last month. The other members of the team are Upen Chakraborty and Dr Jagadish Basumatary.
Almost all the top officials of the Assam Mountaineering Association were present today at the Gopith Bordoloi Airport to receive the team. Sports director Anjan Sarma and deputy sports director Pradip Hazarika were also present at the airport to felicitate the Heroes along with many followers of the game and sports lovers.
Later Assam Mountaineering Association felicitated entire team in a function which was held at the Swahid Nyas Bhawan in Uzan Bazar this afternoon. Many other organizations, including All Assam Students' Union, also felicitated the entire team in the same function.
In a brief interaction with the media the team leader Mash Barooah said,“Last year also we tried to climb Everest but devastating earth quake forced us to return home from the middle of the expedition. However this time we were successful. Three of our members Henry David Teron, Khorsing Terang and nda Dulal Das reached the summit. The other members of the team also ready to climb the Everest in second phase of the expedition but it was very unfortute that due to various reasons we couldn't fulfill our dream.”
Elaborating three climbers fil journey towards Everest Barooah said, “ It was 8-30 PM on May 18 when the trio-Henry, Khorsing and nda along with five sherpas started their fil journey from South Col. This year huge number of climbers turned up and it really made difficult for our climbers along with other climbers to move smoothly. After nearly 12 hours journey and negotiating many difficult situations the trio filly reached the peak around 8-15 AM on May 19 and hoisted tiol flag , Phulam Gamocha and the flag of Assam Mountaineering Association . nda had mild snow blindness while removing his goggles to take picture while Henry suffered first degree frost bite during the fil journey to summit but they were successful to return without facing too much trouble.”
The felicitation programme was also attended by Chief advisor and president of All Assam Student union Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya and Dipanka Kumar th respectively, president of the Assam Mountaineering Association Satyen Sarma, former president of the association Swapnil Barua, President of ASJA Subodh Malla Barua and others.
In a brief speech Satyen Sarma thanked Assam Government and other sponsors for their help to make the expedition successful. It may be mentioned here that Assam Government had sanctioned Rs 75 lakh for this expedition.
Meanwhile The Directorate of sports and Youth Welfare will felicitate three new Everesters of the State Henry David Teron, Khorsing Terang and nda Dulal Das in a separate function. The function will be held at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor stadium on June 13.
