Tezpur, April 28: Urging the State Government to show at least some sympathy towards the families of the Tawang incidents victims, Ashok Singhal, BJP candidate for 71 No- Dhekiajuli LAC, demanded the State Government to provide compensation to those unfortute families.

Recently after visiting the bereaved families in the Dighaljuri village falling under his contesting Assembly segment in Sonitpur district, Singhal expressed his deep condolence. Singhal said that the State Government had not provided any assistance to these families. “These families are citizens of Assam and the Assam Government should show its responsibility towards the people,” he said and further urged the owner of the five-star hotel also to provide compensation to the families as the deceased persons died while doing construction work in the multi-crore project site.

The child of one of the victims, Jiten Orang who studies in Class VI has now become hepless after his father’s demise in the Tawang landslide insident. However, Singhal assured that he would take entire academic responsibility of the child till he reaches Class X “I have provided an assistance of Rs 5,000 to each family,” he said, adding the BJP-led Aruchal Pradesh government had also provided Rs 5 lakh to each of the victim’s family.

“Moreover, Prime Minister rendra Modi has also announced an amount of Rs. 2 lakh to these families as compensation,” said Singhal.

On the other hand, Ra Pratap Baruah, State general secretary of AJYCP, while expressing his sharp reaction over the State Government not providing of any kind of assistance to these victim families till date, said that the Assam Government should realize that only because of not getting employment opportunity in Assam these poor people have to go outside in search of jobs to feed their families. “So it should be the first and foremost responsibility of the government to provide aid to these families. Despite the announcement of compensation by the Central Government and the Aruchal Pradesh government, the Assam Government is yet to show their accountability in this regard,” he alleged.
