State Home Department orders for temporary suspension of telecom services in Barak Valley

GUWAHATI: The State Home Department has ordered a temporary suspension of all telecom services in Barak Valley for the next 24 hours to prevent anti-social elements to spread rumour and use the internet and social media to cause negative repercussions of the group clash that broke out in Hailakandi town on Friday afternoon. Sources said the Home department is apprehensive that some unscrupulous elements might exploit the Hailakandi group clash to spread communal tension in other districts namely Karimganj and Cachar in Barak Valley by using the internet and social media. The Home department has warned anyone violating its order will be punished as per strict provisions of the law.
