State level Judo C'ship kicks off in Aruchal

ITAGAR, Feb 22: The first edition of the State Level Judo Championship 2016 went off to flying start at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), here on Sunday with an impressive Judo demonstration.

Information Commissioner cum Weight Lifting Federation of India President Abraham K Techi attended the function as chief guest while among others Sports Authority of Aruchal Vice Chairman Gechi Doke, Youth Affairs Director D K Dinglow and SLSA Principal R Linggi were also present on the iugural function.

Day one of the coveted championship saw Ponkap Techi of team Changlang win gold in the 35kg boy’s category and he was followed by Byabang Huphai from team Kra- Daadi with silver and Nyemwang Hutu (Tirap) and ngbia Tadar (Kra- Daadi) with bronze.

In the 40kg boys category Thowang Lomnyu representing Tirap won gold while in the 46 kg category the golden medal was taken by Nikja Tadu from Kurung Kumey.

Kra-Daadi domited the 55kg boy’s category as well with Toku Tachu stching the gold from Ogam Boli from team Upper Siang. In the 66 kg plus category Kamdon Boi from Tirap won the gold followed by Lukpin Doni (Upper Subansiri) with silver and Mirem Tayeng (East Siang) and Kato Ngadong (Lower D Valley) with bronze.

Meanwhile, in the girls section, the 48 kg bout was won by Teli Jermin from Papum Pare while Silom Tesia (Tirap) overcame Yamyum Kocha to win the gold medal in the 52 kg category.

The 57 kg category was domited by Anjali Sagro of East Kameng and the 57 kg plus category saw Yari Maying (Upper Subansiri) take the top spot for gold by defeating Paya Taku (East Kameng) who settled for silver.
