ITANAGAR, June 16: The media fraternity in Arunachal Pradesh under the joint banner of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) has expressed shock and condemned the murder of veteran journalist and editor-in-chief of ‘Rising Kashmir’ Shujaat Bukhari by unknown assailants outside the newspaper’s office in Srinagar on Thursday. The organisations, in a joint press statement here, while terming the brutal killing of the journalist as nothing but a “cowardly act” to silence the media, said: “Such condemnable acts of killing journalists, which in no way is justified, is equivalent to slaughtering the voice of millions, as media represents people’s voice, irrespective of thoughts. “We demand immediate arrest of the culprits and also express our deep condolences to the family members of Bukhari. We also pray that peace returns in the valley,” they said.

Senior journalist Bukhari and his two personal security officers were shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside the office of ‘Rising Kashmir’ in Press Enclave near Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Thursday evening.
