State mourns PR Kyndiah's demise

SHILLONG, March 27: Meghalaya government has declared three days of morning as a mark of respect to Paty Ripple Kyndiah, a three-time Member of Parliament and a former Union Minister of DoNER.

Kyndiah, also a former Governor of Mizoram and a well known figure of the Meghalaya Hill State Movement, passed away at a private hospital on Thursday night. A man known for his myriad qualities right from his active play in all spheres of politics to authoring books on Meghalaya and Mizoram, Kyndiah left behind traces of his accomplished life.

Soon after the news broke, hundreds of people thronged his residence to pay obeisance to the departed leader. Those who spoke to The Sentinel rekindled the contribution of Kyndiah in various spheres of life - from politics to ombudsman and as a patron of sports.  

Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration, informed that the State Government has declared three days of state mourning from today.

During the period, there will be no official entertainment and the tiol Flag will be flown at Half Mast at all government establishments throughout the State. He further informed that a State funeral will be held on March 29.
