By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 28: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today staged sit-in demonstrations all in district headquarters in the State in protest against the rise in prices of essential commodities, and in support of its demand for exemplary punishment to black marketers and hoarders.

AASU president Dipanko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said in a statement today: “We’ve been agitating against the rise in prices of essential commodities, uninterrupted. The failure on the part of the former Chief Minister, the former Food and Civil Supplies Minister and department led prices to skyrocket in the State. The people of the State had to bear the brunt of it. With the coming of Sarbanda Sonowal-led Government at Dispur, people did hope that they would get a respite. However, the present dispensation at Dispur has also failed to check the rise in prices in the State. Rather, black marketers and hoarders are seemed to have been active these days. The rise in prices has to be checked, and black marketers and hoarders have to be punished. The government has to take stern and fruitful in this regard.”
