Joysagar: The Ahom Royal Society (ARS) central committee president K. Rajkonwar and working president MI Bora have demanded bold steps by the Sivasagar district administration and also by the Sivasagar Archeological Department to preserve and protect ancient monuments of the district.

The ARS leaders assimilated in front of the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday and demanded eviction drive in the sites of various Ahom era monuments in Sivasagar. In the premises of the historic Shiva Dol, buildings and small temples had been constructed illegally, they said and demanded eviction. The organization also alleged that many bighas of land of the historic Joysagar Rang Ghar and Talatal Ghar had been illegally encroached upon by some powerful people and they were constructing unauthorized buildings and business establishments on the land.

The Ahom Royal Society urged the administration to take tough steps to protect and preserve the ancient monuments of the district soon. Sivasagar ADC AJ Ali received the memorandum on behalf of the Sivasagar DC.
