Steps taken to strengthen VDP

Silchar, April 13: Concrete steps are being taken to strengthen Village Defence Party (VDP) functioning in Lakhipur constituency. A number of decisions related to strengthening of VDP were taken at a meeting held at Lakhipur PS recently. Ashish Halder, deputy advisor of VDP, said, “Presently, VDP personnel are receiving a pocket money of Rs.2500, which the government is likely to increase very soon. VDP volunteers will be given special training. All VDP personnel are entitled to get an umbrella, a raincoat, a torch and a blanket. The tender for providing them these materials have already been passed. VDP has been performing well in Lakhipur. It is necessary to provide them with all kinds of facilities and amenities”.

Ashish Halder said, “VDP meeting is held on 10th of every month. If any VDP secretary, member or personnel fails to attend it, their membership will be cancelled.” He also said that training would be provided for skill development with regards to the VDP personnel. It has also decided that a meeting on a large scale would be held within the last week of May at Pailapool Community Hall. Issues, concerns and problems related to VDP would be discussed at length at the meeting. It would be followed by a cultural programme. The meeting cum programme will be organized by VDP itself.

It has been also decided that VDP will no longer have to perform duty in Lakhipur town. Ashish Halder advised CO VDO Matabul Haque Laskar to continue performing well. Later, Ashish Halder met with office in-charge of Lakhipur Police Station Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury and discussed law and order situation with him. Anwar Hussain Choudhury assured that he would always help in matters and meetings related to VDP. Anwar Hussain praised VDP and chronicled how VDP has been outstandingly serving and excellently performing.
