JORHAT, March 21: A Mahindra Bolero SUV belonging to Dhrubo Jyoti Borah under Pulibor outpost in Jorhat bearing registration number AS-03 AC 7627, which was stolen on the wee hours of March 14 from in front of the Pulibor Police outpost, was traced and recovered at the NSCN (IM) camp at Mokokchung on March 19. It was brought back to Jorhat. Officer in-Charge of Pulibor outpost Hrishikesh Hazarika said, “A Jorhat origin Assamese lad along with a Sema ga person were in the process of selling the vehicle to the NSCN (IM) militants at Mokokchung. We were tipped off by a source and accordingly we contacted the Mokokchung District Police. They helped us in getting back the vehicle. Right now we cannot disclose the mes of the two middlemen for the sake of investigation.” The owner of the vehicle had parked the SUV in the free area of an abandoned car dealer showroom in front of the Pulibor outpost from where thieves, taking advantage of the fact that the police force was engaged in the security of the Chief Minister who had visited Jorhat at that time, had whisked away the Mahindra Bolero.  In a much needed boost to the declining image of the police force, the vehicle was recovered by the Jorhat police under Superintendent of Police Amanjeet Kaur, five days after being stolen.
