SHILLONG, Dec 30: The Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Federation (MIYF) Amlarem Circle, in its executive committee meeting held recently at Amlarem has unimously taken a decision to block and stop the usage of the dumping site located at Mukjai by the end of the second week of January 2016 as the deadline given to the JHADC will expired on 1st January 2016.

The federation also urged the JHADC authority as well as the district administration to shift the dumping site to some other safe and sound place.

Justifying their decision to block the usage of the dumping site, the federation stated that they have no altertive solution to protect or safeguard the ordiry poor inhabitants of the surrounding villages as it highly affected the air they breathe and this causes various illness and diseases.

The federation in a statement released here said that they are confused with the way in which the District Council, District Administration, District Health and Medical Officials were allowing to throw the waste products of Jowai town in an open air in Mukjai areas of Amlarem Civil Subdivision.

The federation stated that the government spends crores of tax payer’s money to prevent spreading of air borne diseases but the two authorities here in the state of Meghalaya were deaf and blind on this vital issue.
