ONGC iron pipe smuggling case

JOYSAGAR, May 10: Bhaba Hazarika (51), an employee of the ONGC deputed as chief store keeper in the central scrape godown on the bank of the historic Purani Pukhuri under Joysagar police station, was apprehended by the Sivasagar Police on Wednesday night in connection with the ONGC iron pipe smuggling of about Rs 50 crore under case no. 284/18, 292/18 and 119/18 registered in Joysagar and Sivasagar Sadar Police Station respectively.

Hazarika allegedly was found guilty during police investigation in the iron smuggling case. Sources also informed that another ONGC store keeper, D. Bora was also allegedly involved in the scam. They manipulated figures while maintaining the ONGC material register to help the smugglers for 5-6 years. Sivasagar Police produced the arrested mastermind of the iron smuggling gang, Paresh Das on Tuesday before the CJM court, Sivasagar and the court sent the accused to police custody for five days for further interrogation. Besides, the I/O of the iron pipe smuggling scam has been able to find out many clues against some other associates of Paresh Das and they are Kasim, Ajgar, Tariq, Rubul, Saddar, Mukut and also some employees of the ONGC.
