Storm lashes Jorhat

Jorhat, May 4: Storm, rain and hailstone lashed several parts of Jorhat district on Friday, uprooting trees, electric poles while causing damage to over 100s hectares of Ravi crops fields. Glow signs, hoardings, CIC roofs were also pulled down during the 30-minute storm, leading to snapping of power supply in several parts of the district.

 According to sources in the administration, large scale damage has been caused by the storm, while the uprooting of a huge tree on the busy MG Road, led to traffic snarls. On the other hand, five members of the family of one Paniram Neog of Na-Ali along with his Innova vehicle had a close save when a huge kadam tree from the adjacent campus collapsed. The verandah of Bolia Gohain Pukhuri High School was blown off and another portion of the school was damaged after the fall of a big branch of a tree. The kitchen house of the school was also damaged.
