Storm renders hundreds homeless in Dibrugarh, assistance sought

DIBRUGARH, APRIL 18: Tropical storm swept away thousands of dwellers houses, graries and trees at Garudharia,Kolakhowa, Kheroni and several other villages under Laruah Mouza in Dibrugarh district on Friday evening.

As hundreds of people were rendered homeless due to unprecedented rain storm that lashed out in the area for several hours, the people had no other option but to spend sleepless night in the open. The district administration, as alleged by the affected villagers, has not taken any initiative to help them with any assistance.

The president of Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP), Sunil Rajkonwar along with his other members visited the affected areas on Saturday and took stock of the situation.

“The situation demands immediate fincial as well as all other logistic support, to rebuild the houses,” Rajkonwar added.

Flaying local MLA Jivan Tara Ghatowar for her failure in taking any initiative for providing any help to villagers, Rajkonwar called upon the district administration to arrange supply of relief materials and rescue the villagers from uncertainty.

Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad president Udayan Gogoi also urged upon the authority to come forward with all assistance for rehabilitating the affected people.
