Storms damage properties in Jaintia Hills

SHILLONG, May 16: More than 180 houses were damaged during a storm that swept Meghalaya’s Khasi and Jaintia Hills on Monday morning.

However authorities informed that there was no report of any injury to persons in the storm-hit areas.

In East Jaintia Hills’ Byndihati village alone, 50 houses were destroyed in the storm that swept early on Monday morning even as more than hundred trees were flattened.

In South West Khasi Hills district, a storm destroyed around 20 houses in Phlangdiloiñ and Shaid Umoid areas.

The IMD has warned that heavy rain was likely to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya within the next few days from May 14 to May 18.
