Students' body slams JPC, burns effigies of PM, CM

JOYSAGAR, May 10: The Sivasagar district Democratic Students’ Federation staged protest against the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) near Dolmukh Chariali of Sivasagar town on Thursday. The organization alleged that the JPC had staged a melodrama regarding the hearing on the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and was trying to dupe the people of the State. Besides, the leaders of the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Sivasagar district committee, also staged protest in connection with the recent political situation and role of the State and Union governments, and alleged that this would affect the indigenous people of Assam, irrespective of caste and religion.

The leaders of the organization also criticized the speeches made by some politicians recently and said that this would break the integrity of the State. Later, the members of both organizations burnt the effigy of the JPC members as well as the effigies of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.
