Students' organizations demand crackdown on drug peddlers in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, May 12: The United Democratic Students’ Front (UDSF), All India United Democratic Youth Front (AIUDYF) and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Thursday jointly placed their demand to stop using drugs in different places. They also demanded crackdown on drug peddlers and sale of drugs, alcohols, ganja in Kokrajhar district. A group of students and UDSF activists were shouting slogans demanding to stop sale of drugs, ganja and alcohol and to deal with the drug peddlers in the district.

Talking to media persons on Thursday, Yub Hussain, president of the UDSF, said that the union had taken initiative to pressurize the district administration to make Kokrajhar free from drugs and other alcoholic substances which are spoiling the students’ career.

Hussain said that the union had organized a joint demonstration at Joypur in Kokrajhar to bring awareness among the students and common masses to avoid the use of drugs. He asserted that many youths and school-going students use drugs, ganja and alcohol in their tender age which was affecting their career. Hussain demanded the district administration to take stern action against the illegal drug racket in the district.

AIUDF leader and BTC MCLA Abdul Mandal of Fakiragram appealed to all sections of the community to cooperate to deal with drug dealers and peddlers from the region. He also demanded that the district administration to stop the illegal drug business in the district.
