Sub-standard construction work under PMGY scheme alleged

DHEMAJI, Feb 12: Fingers have been pointed at the PWD for the ‘sub-standard’ quality of work under PMGY scheme for the different connecting roads of Bordoloni.

Nranjan Das, district general secretary of AJYCP, Lukumani Dutta, the president and Rajib Barman, secretary of Bordolani branch respectively, alleged that most roads constructed under PMGY by PWD (roads) of Bordoloni were of sub-standard quality. Poor construction work can be seen in an important connecting road, the Suren Borgohain Path from Bordoloni Chariali to Ghilamara, although Rs 50 lakh and Rs 70 lakh were sanctioned for construction at two points of the road. When the matter was brought to the notice of the PWD, the department officers and a magistrate inspected the work physically and they were convinced about the poor standard of work and the magistrate ordered to repeat the work as per the actual guidelines and norms. But it was alleged that the magistrate’s order and guidelines were ignored by the contractors and they did not improve the quality of work. Some gravel and sand were spread over the Misamari and Koupatani road and no further work was done, sources said.

Another road from Marami Tiniali and the Jayrampur connecting road are also in a dilapidated condition. The people of Bordolani expressed their resentment over the style of work of the contractors and appealed for a high-level enquiry.
