TANGLA, May 13: We all fear death. Death has always been defined as the end of life. And that death is uvoidable. But then what about those who end their own lives? A spate of suicides especially among youths in the last couple of days has sent shockwaves throughout the district.

As per media reports statistics of suicide cases in the district reported an alarming 8 cases in the period of April 30 to May 13. The last two reports are one of 65 year old Bhubaneswar Deka of Teliapara village who allegedly committed suicide on Friday and the other of a 2nd semester Political Science student of Cotton College. Reportedly the girl, a resident of Udalguri town was allegedly found hanging at her home in the evening of Thursday last. The reason behind her extreme step is unknown. After the post mortem, her last rites were performed at her home-town. On May 10 last a youth med Sajidul Islam of Udalguri also reportedly committed suicide.

However, the need of the hour is to answer certain questions that seem to rise in people’s mind, such as: the increasing trend of committing suicide is a reflection of the psychological imbalance among people’s mind or is it just a whimsical decision.
