GORESWAR: Sunrise Youth Club of Uparkhuti village under Goreswar circle office in Baksa district plans to create a world record by hoisting a 3.5-km long and six-foot wide national flag on Independence Day this year. The members of the youth club have been busy sewing the tricolour since July 1 with the help of six sewing machines. Altogether four tailors are sewing the flag day and night to prepare it before Independence Day.

Talking to this correspondent, Krishnaraj Sangrola, the adviser of Sunrise Youth Club, Bapan Das, the president and Ranjan Sarma, the secretary, said that such a step has been taken to instill a sense of patriotism in the new generation and to celebrate the success of Hima Das. The members of Sunrise Youth Club will take out a procession on the Guwahati-Goreswar- Bogamati PWD road with the local public to spread the message of universal love on Independence Day. The flag is almost 80 per cent complete.

In the past, a 3.3-km long national flag had been hoisted in the country. The national flag being prepared by Sunrise Youth Club will be longer than this. The members expect that it will enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
