Supreme Court Permits to Burn Crackers on Diwali Only between 8 PM-10 PM

The Supreme Court verdict on whether to burn crackers on this Diwali is out today. As per the new verdict made on firecracker burning, the apex court said that people will be able to burn crackers only between 8 to 10 PM on the Diwali night. A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and A K Sikri fixed the 8 pm to 10 pm time period.

The apex court has also set restrictions on the selling of the crackers. It has said that firecrackers with low decibel sound limits will be only be allowed to be sold in the market by licensed traders. Moreover, e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon etc will not be allowed to sell firecrackers this time. It has also been added that if the e-commerce websites are found disobeying the directions then they will be considered as committing contempt of court.

Not only for burning the firecrackers, this year, but there are guidelines for buying particular crackers as well. The Supreme Court asks people to buy, sale and manufacture "green" crackers only and this has to be followed across the country.

Notably, this latest move by the Supreme Court can be counted as a step towards curbing air pollution. Hence, the latest directions released by the SC are as follows:
