Surprise raids at Itanagar stalls selling crackers sans licence

ITANAGAR: As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex Prince Dhawan, a team of officers led by SDO Sangeeta Yirang at Itanagar and EAC Hento Karga at Naharlagun carried out surprise checking of all the vendors/ traders selling and possessing fireworks/ crackers without obtaining proper license from the DC cum District Magistrate.

The vendors were issued permit after applying penalty. Fireworks/ crackers of one vendor was also seized from RKM Hospital area who despite warning was still found selling without a permit when the team came for the second round of checking. The Itanagar team covered all the area starting from Mithun Gate area to Zoo area. The DC cum DM had earlier issued an order wherein it was mentioned that anyone found selling and possessing fireworks/ crackers in illegal manner without LE-5 license would be booked under appropriate section of law and such illegal materials to be seized by the committee.

The order also cited the direction of the Supreme Court which has allowed selling of only green crackers which are less polluting and selling of series of crackers or laris across the country has been banned as per the order. During the course of checking, the team also seized dice materials from Gohpur area.
