NAGAON, June 23: Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia on Friday claimed that those ULFA (Ind) cadres who had surrendered recently were definitely the cadres of ULFA although the c-in-c of ULFA (Ind), Paresh Axom alias Paresh Baruah said that they were not the members of the militant group.

Referring to the recent declaration in the media by the chief of the group, DGP Saikia stated that if Paresh Baruah was eager to come out for talks, all would welcome him and there would be no questions of bar by some police officials or other people of the State. He, however, appealed to the top leader of the militant group to come out and join in the process of ULFA-government talk.

DGP Saikia, along with top officials of the State Government like Chief Secretary TY Das, Additional Chief Secretary of Home department, Alak Kumar, Principal Secretary LS Changsang, ADGP (SB) Pallav Bhattacharya, ADGP (security) Harmit Sing and IGP Dipak Kumar attended a special meeting held in Nagaon to discuss the recent law-and -order situation and review the security measures in four districts like Karbi-Anglong East and West, Nagaon and Morigaon just ahead of publication of the second draft of NRC. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of the four districts and other senior officials of Army and paramilitary forces were present.
