Sushma to sound poll bugle in Barak on December 27

Special correspondent

SILCHAR, Dec 24: Though the Chief Election Commission is yet to make announcement about the dates of 2016 assembly elections, major parties like Congress, AIUDF and BJP are gearing up for the battle ahead. Badruddin Ajmal, AIUDF supremo, to be precise, was the first to fire the salvo of electioneering in Barak Valley. He addressed a series of rallies and workers’ meets in the three districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi.

The campaign was to boost up the organization, the leaders and workers and at the same time to assess the ground reality. BJP to follow suit will have a public rally to be addressed by Sushma Swaraj, Union Exterl Affairs Minister, on Sunday at Gandhi Mela ground. In fact, according to a party source, she was to meet the workers and also have an assessment of the organizatiol build up to face the elections ahead. The district headquarters of the party here is abuzz with frontline leaders and workers to discuss the preparations for the visit of Sushma Swaraj and how to make it a success in terms of attendance.

The source says that around 40,000 BJP workers from all the four districts of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao would assemble. Sushma Swaraj would be accompanied by Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs as well as state party president, Ram Madhav, tiol general secretary, and Himanta Biswa Sarma. BJP has set ‘Mission 84’ as its target and all out efforts have to be put in to reach it. Looking at the complex political scerio with no party of consequence confident enough to get the absolute majority, the talks are in the air and media about possible understanding, adjustment and coalition.

From all account, even after the switching over of 10 MLAs to BJP, Congress is having the majority number in Assembly. But, the party stands on a slippery ground due to various factors which among others is misgovernce and stagnt development and with that mounting disillusionment among people. It is very much on line of seeking understanding with AIUDF. All is however speculative. BJP on its part has not opened its mind about the possible adjustment, perhaps the strategy will be decided after polls.

The public rally to be addressed by Sushma Swaraj is not only to stir up leaders and workers of the four districts but also to bolster up their morale. Most important, it will be to counter the propaganda and disinformation campaign of Congress against the rendra Modi led Government at the Centre. Even on unteble grounds, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha during its winter session have been disturbed, costing the public exchequer a loss of Rs.100 crore. AAP has also joined the crusade, targeting Arun Jaitely, Union Fince Minister, related to the Delhi’s Cricket Body.
