Suspected ASAK rebel killed in encounter

SHILLONG, Feb 14: A suspected ASAK militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Garo Hills on Sunday morning. According to police, based on specific information that ASAK commander-in-chief Reding along with five to six militants were camping in Kemdang village under Baghmara police station of Souh Garo Hills district, a team of SWAT from Baghmara launched counter insurgency operations last night.  When the security team reached the spot, a group of six to seven armed militants opened fire on the team and police retaliated. According to police after a brief exchange of fire, the militants fled away. During search operation at the spot an unidentified body of a male along with one pistol, some live ammunition and SIM cards was recovered.
