Syiem counters HS Shylla

NO CONFIDENCE MOTION

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 22: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) PN Syiem was busy countering HS Shylla instead of giving proper clarification on the questioned raised by the members during the no-confidence motion (NC) against the People Democratic Forum (PDF) Executive Committee (EC) on the fil day of the Council session.

The no-confidence motion (NC) moved by Shylla which was supported by seven other MDCs was later withdrawn after members of the house questioned and discussed on the style of functioning of the EC led by Syiem.

Speaking to reporters after the NC, Shylla said, “The CEM during the NC avoided to answer on a number of issues raised by the members of the house and instead did something which has never happened in the floor of the house by bringing counter charges against the mover of the NC (Shylla) which to me is uncivilised.”

He added, “This has clearly shown that the CEM is uble to clarify on many of the queries and this shows that he is at fault and in view of this we will follow up on the matter.”

Asked on the non compliance from members of his own party (UDP) inn KHADC to support the NC moved by him, he said, “We had a subcommittee meeting of the party earlier and it was evident that there were divided opinions as some members of the party supported the move and on the nine queries, however the president of the party had clearly stated that he does not want to do anything to topple the EC led by Syiem.”

On the allegations that the UDP PP leader who is also part of the PDF will report his actions for moving an NC to the party high command, he said, “There is no question to report because I had asked permission from the party to move an NC against the present EC, despite not getting a clear Yes or No answer, however if the party feels I have done wrong then it’s on them to take up any action.”

Asked whether there is a division inside the UDP party since some members in the subcommittee are in favour and some are not in seeking clarification on the nine point queries from the EC, Shylla said, “In a large party there might be differences of opinion and understanding however we cannot say that there is division inside the party.”
