Taba Nirmali refuses to join as Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Chairperson

Itanagar, Aug 1: In what appeared to be a big setback to the ruling dispensation in the state, the newly appointed chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Taba Nirmali has refused to join the Commission, citing personal reasons.

While expressing her gratitude to Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Chief Secretary Satya Gopal for assigning her with “such a prominent, respectable and responsible post”, Nirmali expressed her inability to join the Commission, saying she could not assume the charge as she is obliged toward the public of 16th Yachuli Assembly Constituency (while hinting at contesting the 2019 Assembly polls from the said seat).

She said, “I am very glad and fortunate to be appointed as the chairperson of the APSCW for the 5th Commission on March 9, 2018”.

When asked as to why it was so delayed in taking the decision, Nirmali said that it was due to health ground and now, she is getting better and feeling fine. She, however, said that she will always extend support for the development of the women in Arunachal Pradesh.
