Taj to attend WBC in Korea

ITAGAR, Sept 14: State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) Scientist Rab Kara Taj has been nomited by the government to represent the State at the 10th World Bamboo Congress (WBC) to be held at Damyang County, Korea from September 17 to 22.

Taj has been invited to the function by the Governor of Damyang County, Jeollam-do and supported by South Asia Bamboo Foundation, a chapter of World Bamboo Organization (WBO), an official communiqué said here today.

Earlier in April 2012, he also represented the State in WBC at Antwerp, Belgium organized by the WBO.

After obtaining diploma in bamboo cultivation, processing and production technologies, machinery, tools and its administration from tiol Bamboo Research Center, Hanzou (Chi) in 2003, Taj joined the Department of Environment & Forest as scientist in 2005.

A pioneer on bamboo and its development in South Asian region, particularly North East India, Taj has so far trained thousands of people in bamboo development and its technology in the State, tiol and intertiol level under the support of government of Aruchal Pradesh, UNIDO, DC (H), NEC and tiol Bamboo Mission. He has also recorded several new bamboo species from the region, the communiqué added.
