Tamil Nadu turns down Kerala's 20 Lakh litre water offer despite acute water crisis

Thiruvananthapuram: At a time, when Tamil Nadu is suffering from acute water crisis with its land going deep dry, it rejected Kerala CM's offer to provide 20 lakh litres of drinking water. this is shocking and surprising at the same time as when a state is suffering from such an acute shortage of water, how can it even turn down such an offer!

As stated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the state wanted to make an offer of 20 lakh litres of drinking water to Tamil Nadu in keeping with the water crisis issues the neighboring state is suffering from. The drought-like conditions that have been created in Tamil Nadu have not only disturbed the suffering state but its neighboring state Kerala as well for which such a generous offer was being made by the Kerala CM.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, "Tamil Nadu is facing a severe water crisis and state Govt had agreed to provide drinking water to [via] the railways. Our office contacted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Office and received a reply that it wasn't necessary."
Such an arrogant reply from Tamil Nadu and that too at such hard times was definitely not expected by Kerala. However, whoever has come to know about this matter, is only left with his jaw-dropping as Tamil Nadu should have welcomed this offer with open arms but it acted the opposite.

In the meanwhile, normal life in Tamil Nadu is badly hit. right from shutting down of several restaurants to schools and colleges shortening its study hours, several issues have started occurring in the state.

The Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami, however, has something else to say about its water crisis issue. He says that media is creating an "illusion" of water scarcity in the state. He stated, "The media should not create an illusion of water scarcity using some stray incidents."

The TN CM is of the opinion that even though the lakes that used to have drinking water for Chennai have dried up, but they are taking to ensure supply of drinking water. for this, they have tried to augment it from Veeranam lake in Cuddalore district.
