NRC VERIFICATION WORK

GUWAHATI, Feb 6: The Assam government has not received sufficient support from other states and countries regarding verification of NRC documents. This came out in the statement by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on behalf of the Chief Minister while answering a query raised by Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purakayastha in the Assembly on Monday.  Patowary informed the House that 4.18 lakh documents were sent to other states for verification purpose, but only 73,183 verified documents have been received so far. NRC documents numbering 402 were sent to other countries for verification through the Exterl Affairs Ministry, but only 47 documents have been received till date. Patowary stated that the State government has received a total of 6.14 crore NRC documents and of it, 5.73 crore documents, which is 93.32 per cent of the total documents received, have been verified.  The Minister further revealed that a total of 5,192 fake NRC documents have been detected so far. In this connection, 271 persons have been arrested.
