Tarun Gogoi Concern Over LGBI Airport Privatization Move

GUWAHATI: In a letter on the decision of the Government to privatise LGBI airport in the city, former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has written a letter to Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu. Representing Airport Authority Employees’ Union, LGBI Guwahati, Gogoi has requested to allow the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to function with autonomy and to continue to run LGBI under AAI. Gogoi stated that the LGBI airport is growing at a fast pace and “it is a gateway of North East Region.” He felt that handing over LGBI airport which is contributing to economic growth and prosperity of the nation is total injustice and goes against the interest of the people of the region. Gogoi has urged Prabhu to take necessary steps in the matter so that the prayer of Airport Authority Employees’ Union is given due justification and in the larger interest of North East, privatization of LGBI is stopped.
