Dibrugarh, September 8: Chayanika’s tasurya Phani Sharma Memorial tiol Drama Festival got under way at District Library Auditorium with the hoisting of Chayanika’s flag by its president Dr Bhavani Prasad Chaliha.
As part of its silver jubilee celebration, Chayanika felicitated a number of distinguished persolities for their immense contribution towards development of various forms of art and culture. The eminent persolities who were felicitated on the occasion are noted writer Devi Prasad Bagrodia who has translated a number of writings of Roopkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla to Hindi, founder of Chaolkhowa Sangeet Vidyalaya , ace writer and noted musician, Dr Dilip Ranjan Borthakur, founder president of Chayaika , Pradip Barua, folk singer of intertiol repute, Doly Das, noted drama persolities Prof. Munin Sarma, bin Sarma, Soumen Dasgupta, Rajesh Das and Ashim Sarma, cine artiste, noted TV and radio producer, Jhar Saikia, cultural activist and active member of the DAP Anil Duwara, noted singer Santa Baruah, former head of Education Department, Dibru College and former Principal of Tengakhat College, a diehard socio-cultural activist, Dr Runuma Sarmah, noted actor Renu Sarma, one of the founders of Asom tya Sanmmilan, former active member of Indian People’s Theater Group (IPTA) Hasan Sarif Ahmed, artist and sculptor Priti Ranjan Das, ace dancer Meera Kalita, noted sitar player Indra Konwar and senior jourlist and cultural activist, I. Ahmed.
Unfurling the Chayanika flag amidst presence of all felicitated celebrities, president Dr Bhavani Prasad Chaliha, in his deliberation, called upon the people to come forward and help Chayanika to grow from strength to strength. Expressing deep hope over the very success of the Bharat t Samaroh, Dr Chaliha offered his deep gratitude to all artistes, groups and others for their participation in the Samaroh.
Earlier, one of the founders of Chayanika, Bhupen Goswami welcomed all guests and others for their active participation while Jyoti Prakash Bhattacharyya introduced the guests to the audiences.
Intertiolly acclaimed Drama Director of Chorus Repertory, Imphal, Manipur, Ratan Thiam iugurated the drama festival in the evening at Dibrugarh District Library auditorium. This was followed by Chorus Repertory’s drama Macbeth directed by Thiam which received applause from the drama lovers of Dibrugarh.
The drama festival, which will continue till September 13, will witness plays like Xatriya Kendra’s Ram Vijay, director: Dulal Roy, on September 9 , Seagull’s Garh, Director, Baharul Islam on September 10, Rangmandali, Lucknow’s Bhagavad Jukhium , Director, Surya Mohan Kulashestra on September 11 and Bodungdupa Kola Kendra, Goalpara, Rather Rashi, Director, Sukracharjyya Rava on September 12. Chayanika will stage their own drama Chakrabhyu on the concluding day on September 13, to be directed by noted actor and director Haresh Bezbaruah. The screenplay of Chakrabhyu is written by Sukumar Chetia.
