Taxi association’s bribery charge

SHILLONG, March 30: The East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) today alleged that drivers and vehicle owners in the district have to pay their way through to get the staffs of the sales tax office to issue them No Objection Certificates (NOC).    Disparsing Rani, Adviser of the EKHLTWA alleged that people who have money to bribe get their work done within two days in this office, whereas people going through the right procedure fail to get their NOC even after a year. Rani also alleged that the office has not been able to provide the NOC for his local taxi bearing registration no. ML-05 E-9803 that he has applied right from March 25, 2014. “I have two Challan but there is no NOC till now” he said adding that he had visited the office five times to inquire the reason for the delay but the reply given by the office was that the file was lost and there no time to search for it. Rani also said that the delay on the part of the sales tax office is costing him dear since he has to pay a fine of Rs 2000 per month to the DTO office. “It has been one year but I haven’t got the NOC” he said adding who is going to pay the fine of Rs 2000 for him.
