TDJA gives clean chit to secretary Monoranjan Das

TINSUKIA, June 5: The Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA), in an emergent Executive Meeting, gave a clean chit to Monoranjan Das, secretary TDJA, against whom allegation of extortion and vandalism were levelled after a five-member independent inquiry committee constituted by the TDJA could not establish Das’ involvement in the act. The EC meeting held at Tinsukia Press Club on Monday discussed in threadbare the findings of the inquiry committee and resolved that Das, relieved earlier from the post of secretary TDJA, though acquitted but as the matter had been pending in Tinsukia Court following withdrawal of registered FIR at Digboi PS by BC Sharma who named nine persons, including Das, restoring his incumbency as TDJA secretary would be kept in abeyance till final judgement of the court.

On May 17, one BC Sharma lodged an FIR at Digboi PS complaining that his timber-laden truck was intercepted at Tingrai Tinali by nine persons, including Monoranjan Das, and they looted Rs 63,000 cash, besides damaging the truck. This incident was widely circulated in print, electronic and social media. Sharma, after withdrawing the FIR, disappeared from the picture whom the TDJA Inquiry Committee failed to trace but he left Das and TDJA in particular badly tainted which prompted TDJA to constitute a fact-finding inquiry committee.
