TDJA to inquire graft allegation

TINSUKIA, May 19: The Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA) constituted an inquiry committee to examine the allegation against its secretary Manaranjan Das who was alleged to have accepted bribe from timber-laden truck for safe passage on the night of May 18 in Digboi.

In an emergency meeting of executive members held at Tinsukia Press Club on Friday, the TDJA, after threadbare discussion, temporarily relieved Manaranjan Das from the post of secretary till the completion of inquiry process and Manaranjan Moran, assistant secretary, has been assigned the responsibility as officiating secretary. The 5-member inquiry committee consists of Anuj Kalita, Kamal Talukdar, Santanu Goswami, Rishi Das and Krishna Upadhaya. The committee will submit the report within May 26. The meeting, while expressing concern and distress for embroiling TDJA into the controversy, opined that it was a malicious design of some media persons to malign the image of the association. The members viewed that the news published in some newspapers were unilateral and unethical to journalism.
