Tea garden owner arrested in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, Jan 22: Police arrested proprietor of Sourav Tea Estate, Adesh Kanoi on charges of misappropriating fund of pension and provident fund of labourers of his tea estate.

The Assistant P.F Commissioner lodged a complaint at Lahowal Police Station against the proprietor of Sourov Tea Estate, Adesh Kanoi. With regard to the non-settlement of Provident Fund,

Gratuity and Pension benefits of 65 Tea Workers, of Saurabh Tea Estate, by the Magement, a conciliation meeting was called by the Assistant Labour Commissioner here, at his office, who vide reference copy No- ATW -1/2015, forwarded by DC Manivann, had been asked to take necessary action, for settlement of PF and other benefits. The proprietor of the 500 acre, Saurabh Tea Estate, Adesh Kanoi, had appeared before the Assistant Labour Commissioner, and thereby had agreed for settling the same for granting the much awaited fincial succor to the deprived workers of the Tea Estate. Later, the non-satisfactory compliance of the owner, on payment of overdue fincial relief to the 65 aggrieved tea workers, resulted in the arrest of Adesh Kanoi.

The magement of tea estate has failed to take specific action against the non-deposit of provident funds even after repeated protests by the workers and Assam Tea Workers Union (ATWU).

At last ATWA lodged complaint at the Labour Commissioner as well Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh with a pray to help aggrieved workers to get their genuine dues.  ATWA secretary Issak Karkaria while talking to the Sentinel hoped that the suffered labourers would get justice soon.
