Tea garden workers stage NH blockade at Chapar

CHAPAR, May 5:  Under the aegis of AASAA and CITU more than 2000 tea garden labourers of Krishkali Tea Estate, Choibari Tea Estate and Chapar Tea Estate today blocked tiol Highway 31 here demanding increase of their daily wage up to Rs 330 instead of Rs 94 only. The labourers  abstained from their duties and joined the highways blockade programme from 10 am to 11.30 am. Golap Chik Boraik, general secretary of AASAA’s Dhubri district committee stated that the tea laborers of Assam are paid only  Rs 94 daily, which is very  low and far below the minimum wage rate of Rs 169 fixed by Assam Government. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the  Chapar Circle officer.
