Tea tribe leader Rameswar Dhanowar passes away

DIGBOI, July 10: Providence lent a blow to the Indian tiol Congress early on Monday morning following the death of legendary tea tribe leader Rameswar Dhanowar at AMCH Dibrugarh after prolonged illness.

The news of the demise of Dhanowar at around 6.45 am on Monday came like a thunderbolt to his supporters and well-wishers. Grief-stricken relatives, party workers and people from various walks of life thronged the Congress Bhavan in Digboi waiting to extend a tearful adieu to their leader.

“He was always mild, jolly and a perfect creation of ture who always succeeded in winning the hearts of his people whose love towards him can be measured by his eight consecutive wins in  36 years from one seat,” said a senior Congress leader who was a close associate of Dhanowar.  

The body of Dhanowar was taken to various places across the oil township so that people could pay tribute to their loved leader.

Meanwhile, various political and non-political persolities, including Sanjay Kishan, the MLA of Tinsukia, Suren Phukon, Digboi MLA, Durga Bhumij, MLA of Doomdoma and several other dignitaries offered floral tribute and expressed shock at the demise of the leader and termed the loss as ‘irreparable’. The last rites were carried out at Itabhata Cremation Ground in presence of thousands of Dhanowar’s fans, well-wishers and relatives. Dhanowar is survived by his wife, three sons and daughters.
