Teachers' body submits memo to Deputy CM

SHILLONG, Feb 2: The Meghalaya Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Schools Association today submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge education RC Laloo. The Association has also set a 30 days deadline to the government to meet their demands. The Association has demanded immediate implementation of mandatory norms of SSA and RTE 2009 and shifting of all posts of Primary and Upper Primary level from Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan State Education Mission Authority Meghalaya (SSA-SEMAM) to State Education Department on regular basis, periodical enhancement of SSA teachers’ salary and regularization the service of the SSA teachers. “If the government fails to meet our demands within the 30 days, we will take up other means to pressurize the government” Manbha K Raswai, president of Meghalaya SSA Schools Association told newsmen here on Tuesday. “As per the rules and guidelines set by the central government in our state, the government has so far not been able to implement the guidelines as has been done by other North Eastern states,” he said. Stating that SSA schools in Meghalaya are being run by society, he said, “What we want is that SSA schools should not be run by the society and that role should be given to the state education department.” He said compared to other North Eastern states as per the minutes of the 220th PAB meeting held on March 4, 2015 it clearly shows that Meghalaya teachers are being paid far lesser. He further informed that there are 5, 766 SSA Lower Primary (LP) teachers in the state in 2, 883 schools and 6, 715 SSA Upper Primary teachers in 2,238 schools.
