Teachers Empowerment Programme conducted by “Stars of North East”

GUWAHATI: A Teachers Empowerment Programme was conducted by the “Stars of North East” (SoNE) Education Team at Patharighat in Darrang district on Thursday. Teachers from four local schools took part in the programme that was hosted jointly by Patharughat English School and Jatiya Vidyalaya, Patharighat, a press release stated.

Welcoming the resource persons, principal of Patharughat English School Aziz Ali said, “As we are located away from the cities, it is very difficult for us to conduct skill development programmes for teachers who are located in an interior area like Patharighat. We are grateful to Stars of North East who have gone out of the way and brought eminent experts in the field of education to share their knowledge and interact with the teachers here.”

The first session of the day was conducted by Siddharth P Dutta, Communication Consultant, who exhorted the teachers to come out of their shells, acquire good communication skills that would make them more acceptable and useful for their students. He reminded the teachers that they may not be able to become expert communicators in one day, but if they keep on learning and improving everyday they would certainly end up as exemplary communicators in no time.

Reshma NC Shah, renowned education consultant, stressed upon the need for giving more responsibility to the students. She said, “Once responsibility is passed to the students, they own up the task, and make all attempts to accomplish it with their best efforts.”

Others who addressed the teacher participants were Salma Hussain, human rights worker; Silki Khan, sportsperson; and Ikram Hussain, expert on disability sector. The programme was followed by a visit to the Patharighat Martyrs’ Memorial where 140 Assamese peasants were killed by the British Police in 1894 when they had risen in revolt against the British Government’s high taxation on farm products.
