Teachers yet to get revised pension

Special Correspondent

Silchar, June 28: Durga Kanta Pandey who served as assistant teacher in Jogai Mathura High School, Binkandie Ghat under Lakhipur subdivision, for long 32 years and also served as headmaster in-charge of the same school for 2 years and retired from service in 2003 is yet to get his revised pension. In a letter addressed to Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Education, Pension and Public Grievances, Assam, recently, Pandey has mentioned that he got pension order from the director of pension, Assam under the PPO No. PPO/S/SP/55028 commencing from June 1, 2003 vide office order no. DP/18/PPO/S/SP/55028.

Pandey has been enjoying his pension at pre revised rate since June 1, 2003. He pointed out in his letter that a government order was issued regarding fixation of revised pension in respect of pre January 1, 2006 pensioner / family pensioner under the state government by the secretary to the Government of Assam, Pension and Public Grievances Department vide his order dated August 7, 2012. Unfortutely, the above order for fixation of revised pension in respect of pre 2006 has not yet been implemented by the authorities concerned for which he has been deprived of the revised pension since 2006.

This is not his case alone. There are other pensioners / family pensioners in the subdivision who have also been deprived of the revised pension. Like him, the deprived teachers have to face lot of hardship on account of their fincial constraints in these days of escalating prices of all commodities. In view of the facts stated, Durga Kanta Pandey has fervently urged upon the Education Minister to implement fixation of the revised pension to eble him and others deprived to enjoy the benefits of revised pension prior to the enforcement of next pay revision with retrospective effect from January 1, 2016.
