Teaching fraternity extends support to mass fasting

GUWAHATI, May 28: The Assam State Primary Teachers’ Sanmilani has extended solidarity to the AASU and 28 other ethnic organizations’ mass fasting scheduled on May 29. In a release, the Sanmilani president Jibon Ch Bora and secretary general Ratul Ch Goswami informed to the media that a team of teachers representing the Sanmilani will participate in the mass fasting by obtaining departmental leave.

Stating that the teaching fraternity has always been playing a pivotal role as and when there is a question of integrity, the duo said, “We impart our students about the sanctity and purity of the Indian constitution within the respective boundaries. However, by participating in the mass fasting, we will extend our lesson to the larger mass.” The duos have also reiterated that the fraternity members are also directly or indirectly involved and contributing to the up gradation work of the NRC. As the next step of its democratic protest against the Centre’s move to defeat the Assam Accord and grant citizenship to illegal migrants through the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 28 ethnic organisations representing various communities of the State would sit for a mass fasting on May 29 at the AEI Field Chandmari.
