Team India likely to wear orange jersey, SP MLA alleges BJP of 'saffronisation'

New Delhi: As the Indian cricket team gets ready to face England on June 30 in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup, another controversy has started making headlines. The new issue of the day is that team India is likely to wear orange jersey against the host team and this has evoked another controversy. The Indian cricket team too has not been spared from dirty politics and proving that once again, some political parties are complaining that the orange jersey of team India is the outcome of BJP trying to saffronise the team.

Samajwadi party MLA from Mumbai, Abu Azmi alleges that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is putting an effort at saffronising everything. While speaking to reporters, the MLA said that he is happy for team India seeing their brilliant performances. But he has objections on the team wearing the colour orange.

Azmi stated, “But Modi wants to paint the entire country with saffron. Today, jerseys are being made saffron. Modi-ji, the person who decided the colours of the national flag was a Muslim leader. If you want to pick a colour for the jersey, pick the tricolour, I won't mind."

The Mumbai MLA further added that he is not happy with the use of the colour saffron. According to him, people should even oppose the use of this colour.

This made BJP to answer him back. BJP MLA Ram Kadam responded that the oppositions have no issue to pick up and point at the BJP during the ongoing the monsoon session. Kadam said that with nothing left for the oppositions to speak about, they are now politicizing with the colour of the jersey to be worn by the Indian cricket team. He also questioned as to what is so wrong in the colour and why not saffron. At a time when the BJP flag has both green and saffron colours in it, what is their issue with the saffron colour only?

The debate over the issue showed some parties supporting SP while some others criticising the party for such childish thoughts.
