Technical Training Must for Women Empowerment, Stresses Assam CM Sonowal

Guwahati: Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni has been implemented in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia under the scheme for women empowerment. It has gone under review by the Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on July 6. MP Rameswar Teli, MLAs Prashanta Phukan, Chakradhar Gogoi, Rituparna Baruah, Binod Hazarika, Bimal Bora, deputy commissioner Loya Madduri and other government officials were present for the meeting.

Training programmes, that include the local MLAs, for the women of SHGs are to be provided by the Panchayat & Rural Development Department, directs Sonowal. The Chief Minister pointed out that previous such programmes have failed to achieve sustainable results. To combat this issue, he highlighted the importance of the productive use of the funds involved and also the requirement for technical knowledge. In order to achieve proper upliftment of these women from poor economic condition, professionalism must be implemented and goals should be market oriented, Sonowal stressed. The strengths and weaknesses of the two SHGs were also reviewed.
