LAKHIMPUR, May 16: Child trafficking has appeared to be a major concern in Lakhimpur district. An inter-State child trafficking racket is alarmingly active in the district and this racket has unabatedly transported teenage girls to Arunachal Pradesh. Such a teenage girl, who was sold to person of Arunachal Pradesh, was recovered from the Tamin Camp of the state on Tuesday.

The girl was identified as Parboti Tanti (16), daughter of Sonaram Tanti and Ghenu Tanti, inhabitant of No. 2 Panchnai village under Chilanibari Police Outpost of the district. As per information, one Mamoni Tanti of the village took Parboti to her home five months ago. Three months later when Parboti’s parents went to meet Parboti at Mamoni’s home, they came to know that she had been sold to Asop Nido of Tamin Camp of Arunachal Pradesh. When she was contacted, her parents further came to know that Asop Nido forcefully married Parboti. Then her parents lodged an FIR at Chilanibari Outpost and a team of police from Lakhimpur led by DSP Rashmi Rekha Sarmah and IC of Chilanibari Outpost, Dinesh Doley recovered the poor girl from Tamin Camp with the help extended by Childline of Arunachal Pradesh and the Child Protection Officer of Ziro.
