Bongaigaon, March 6: Ten oil tankers and two coal loaded trucks were destroyed in a massive fire that occurred in Chapaguri area of Chirang district in the evening of Thursday. One of the oil tankers was carrying diesel from IOCL Bongaigaon to Silchar. The fire started at 4-30 pm in a parking place in front of Little Flower School near NH-31 at Chapaguri. Fire tenders were called immediately. But as the fire caught highly inflammable substances, it became almost impossible to it. Almost twenty fire tenders from several nearby fire stations of Bongaigaon, Abhayapuri, Kajalgaon, Bijni, and Kokrajhar arrived on the spot and tried to control the blaze. A foam spraying tanker, used to control fire on highly inflammable material, arrived from Bongaigaon IOCL. The fire was brought under control after almost five hours. The cause behind the fire accident is yet to be ascertained. A source said that a cooking stove of a driver exploded which led to the fire. However, officials have not ruled out other angles, including pilferage attempts by miscreants.
