FROM A CORRESPONDENT

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial)/JORHAT, July 15: Tension prevailed here following the recovery of the body of Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS)’s Jorhat district general secretary Sandeep Bora at Singijan beel here today.

Sandeep went missing on Wednesday night following a clash between CMSS activists and expelled CMSS leader Haren Bora and his associates while they were on the way to Guwahati by Intercity Express train. Haren Bora and his associates were travelling to Guwhati to attend a semir organized by a group of activists led by former KMSS leader Kamal Kr Medhi.

Sources said there was a clash at Furkating-Jamuguri railway station between SMSS activists which was general secretary Bidyut Saikia and former CMSS leader Haren Bora and his associates.

Suddenly in the area between Furkating Junction and Jamuguri Station some activists pulled the chain to stop the train and the clash took ugly turn. Some activists from both the groups tried to flee from the spot and Sandeep Bora went missing.

Later Bidyut Saikia and former SMSS leader Haren Bora filed separate FIRs in Golaghat Police Station against each other group. On the basis of Haren Bora’s complaint Golaghat police arrested Bidyut Saikia and later he was sent to jail.

But today following the recovery of Sandeep’s body the entire scene changed dramatically.  Golaghat police arrested Haren Bora.

Talking to the mediapersons, Golaghat Additiol Superintended of Police Noomal Mahtto said, “Today we have recovered a body from Singijan which was 15 km away from the Golaghat police station. The body has been identified by his colleague as Sandeep Bora, general secretary of CMSS Jorhat district.”

The CMSS claimed the death of Sandeep as planned murder and suspected Haren Bora’s involvement in it.

While two other CMSS members—Mas Konwar and another one— who went missing along with Sandeep still remained untraced.

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has condoled the death of Sandeep and declared him as a martyr. Sandip was a student of Borholla College under Titabor sub division in Jorhat district. He leaves behind his mother and a sister.
