Tension ahead of students' body election in Goalpara College

From a Correspondent

Goalpara, September 28: The student body election scheduled to be held on September 30 in Goalpara College has created multi-fold tension in the institution. On Wednesday, the college wing of the Indian tiol Congress’ student organization, NSUI blocked the main gate of the institution.

According to information, on September 22 the nomition papers of the AASU and ABVP sponsored candidates for general secretary posts were cancelled by the election commissioner due to non-fulfilment of prevailing rules. This led to the uncontested winning of the NSUI sponsored general secretary candidate.

At this, both AASU and ABVP came down heavily on the election commission and demanded justice by sitting in protest at the main gate and blocked several lecturers inside the college campus on the same day. Later, they filed a petition before the Deputy Commissioner.

Farokh Alom, Deputy Commissioner in-charge, on Wednesday declared the AASU sponsored candidate as eligible which resulted again in contest for the general secretary post.  As a reaction, this time NSUI blocked the college gate. However, amid all this tension, the college administration has geared up for election on Friday and appealed to the students for peaceful conduct of the election.
