Tension between two communities

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL February 25: Tension is running high between two communities in Imphal west district situated near the state capital. This follows the demolition of the house of the village chief by the villagers of another village on the charge that the house was constructed at encroached land. They said that some persons of these groups had come only last year to occupy the land which belongs to another community. They alleged that one cabinet minister has been quarterbacking the encroachers by giving them guidance and protection. The angry villagers demanded dropping of the minister if the commul harmony need to be maintained. So far there is no retaliation. But the incident is likely to snowball into a major confrontation.
