GAON (HAIBORGAON), May 10: On May 5 a girl from Golaghat was allegedly gang raped by some youths at Islampati railway gate and tension over this incident still prevails in gaon town.

An irate mob from gaon Khutikatia area on Tuesday staged demonstration and blocked the old NH 37 road near Khutikatia SBI Bank for hours and demanded the district administration to b all those culprits who were directly or indirectly involved in the incident. The irate mob alleged that the police, though had apprehended two rapists out of five, had not shown much efficiency in bbing the other rapists. They alleged further that the police promised to b all of them within three days. But even after five days had passed, the police had not been successful in arresting all the culprits.

Later, senior police officials rushed to the demonstration site and somehow convinced the protesters to go back.  On the other hand, the gaon district unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) also staged demonstration and blocked the old NH 37 Road near Morigaon bus stand and demanded to immediate control the price of essential commodities, renovation of roads, bridges and also to make gaon as drugs-free district.

Hundreds of students first took out a rally from the district head office of AASU to Morigaon bus stand and staged a demonstration there and later went to the DC office where they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and asked the government to provide security to the general people and their properties and also demanded that strict measures should be taken to deal with the drug mece.
